Yes, it’s a pain to remove them. If you can’t or won’t, consider using a spare (spinnaker?) halyard to wrap around your furl. Speaking of furl, make doubly sure your furling line is secured by its clutch/jammer and consider throwing in an extra knot or two for good measure. If the wind is permitted even a few inches of canvas to play with, you may find the sail completely unfurled and blown out. In severe storms, boats have been dismasted by this force.

Also remember that the peak of hurricane season is September 10 and we have quite a bit of 2024 season left in the tank. If you just removed your headsail for Helene, consider leaving it bagged until the end of the season.
